We have an ambitious mandate — to transform how research across all academic disciplines is organized, managed, stored, and used. We work with other ecosystem partners and stakeholders across the country to help provide Canadian researchers with the support they need for leading-edge research excellence, research, innovation, and advancement across all disciplines.

The French Translator/Content Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the overall quality of French content outputs at the Digital Research Alliance of Canada, and providing leadership, professional advice and functional guidance to ensure we provide francophone and anglophone audiences with the same quality of services. This role includes the development of translation processes and standards (including terminology and lexicography); translation and the coordination of translation and interpretation services with external vendors; proof-reading and editing; and the development of French content.

  • Providing comparative editing services to ensure that texts translated into French aptly render the intent and nuances of the English originals.
  • Providing French editing and proofreading services to verify consistency, terminological accuracy and the quality of style, grammar and spelling.
  • Providing linguistic terminological and lexicographical services for the organization and participating in terminological verification and standardization activities. This also includes collaborating with subject matter experts and key stakeholders to seek, develop and standardize specialized vocabulary and terminology.
  • In collaboration with members of the Communications & External Relations team, write communications content in French, tailoring the content and message as needed for the target audience.

  • Degree from a recognized university in a field related to the French language (e.g. translation, linguistics, literature, etc.) and 5+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of skills and experience.
  • Superior translation skills in both written text and verbal communication skills, primarily from English to French (French to English an asset),\ in the non-profit, digital research infrastructure, government, technology and/or post-secondary education sectors.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with demonstrated experience in bringing together multi-disciplinary groups of stakeholders including translation, communications and subject matter experts to ensure alignment on the delivery of terminology and overall consistency of French services.
  • Knowledge of translation tools, including CAT tools, terminology banks, etc. an asset.
  • Certification with CTTC (Canadian Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters Council) or their provincial counterparts (ATIO or OTTIAQ) an asset.
  • Fully versed in a PC/Microsoft environment using various programs necessary in a translation and communications environment.
  • Excellent knowledge and background in technical translation and technical writing in a broad range of disciplines. Science and/or technical writing experience is a definite asset. Methodical and disciplined approach to work, attention to detail and quality focus.
  • Proven planning, organizational and priority setting skills.
  • Adaptive, flexible and capable of working effectively under pressure and tight deadlines.
