Dr. Michele Piercey-Normore is a Professor and Dean of the School of Science and the Environment at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Grenfell campus. In her role as an academic she has maintained an NSERC funded research program for many years. Her research currently focuses on lichen-forming fungal transcriptomes to explore expression profiles of secondary metabolite gene clusters. Along with collaborators and graduate students she is closing the gap on linking the appropriate gene cluster with its bioactive polyketide. As the inaugural Dean, she has established the School of Science and the Environment by bringing together several broad disciplines and developing new interdisciplinary programs. She is passionate about integrating teaching, research, and community engagement to provide students with a supportive environment that is diverse, inclusive, and accessible.
