Digital Research Alliance of Canada Board Chair, Dr. Feridun Hamdullahpur appointed to Order of Canada

We’re pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Feridun Hamdullahpur, Alliance Board Chair, to the Order of Canada. Considered one of the country’s highest honours, the Order of Canada was established in 1967 by Queen Elizabeth II. It celebrates individuals from all walks of life who have made an extraordinary contribution to the nation through their actions or achievements. The award highlights those who have shown exemplary dedication to the community and service to society.

Dr. Hamdullahpur is being recognized for his work in shaping Canada’s research and higher education landscape. As a former dean and vice-president of several universities, he worked to promote entrepreneurialism and participation in a global delivery education model. During his time as president and vice-chancellor of the University of Waterloo, the co-operative education program he launched became the largest of its kind in the world. A long-time champion for women in education, he has consistently demonstrated his commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion through his work as a United Nations HeForShe Champion.

The latest Order of Canada appointments were invested yesterday in Ottawa by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada.

"On behalf of the Alliance, congratulations to Feridun on this remarkable distinction. We applaud your lifetime of dedication to both the research and academic community.
