Dr. Marie-Jean Meurs, PhD is a Professor of Computer Science at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). She has a Master’s in Applied Mathematics and a Doctorate in Computer Science with specialization in natural language understanding in dialogue systems. Her main field of expertise is Artificial Intelligence (AI), in particular automatic learning for natural language processing. 

A specialist in sentiment analysis, especially as applied to health, Dr. Meurs has on many occasions displayed her leadership in several Canadian and international multidisciplinary research projects. Her research topics have led her to develop an interest in research data processing and management resources, and in promoting open access publication of research.

Committed to promoting the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion, Dr. Meurs contributed to the creation of the ElleCode ACM-WS UQAM association, of which she has been the sponsoring professor since 2016.

Scientific Director of Calcul Québec (2020−2022), founding member and coordinator of HumanIA, a science and humanities AI research group, Dr. Meurs is also a member of the Centre Universitaire de Recherche en Science et Technologie (CIRST), the main Canadian interdisciplinary research group.
