Researcher Council Appoints New Chair, Other News

Dr. Randall Sobie

With spring nearly upon us, it’s a time of renewal and rejuvenation. In this foundational year for our team, we’re seeing many new beginnings of our own - most recently with the Researcher Council’s new leadership announcement, as we warmly welcome new Chair, Dr. Randall Sobie.

At the same time, we bid a fond farewell to Dr. Guillaume Bourque. He has been instrumental in the formation of NDRIO as Interim Chair of the Researcher Council, and before that as Chair of the Researcher Advisory Group and Member of the Applicant Board. I recently connected with Guillaume on his experiences serving Canada’s research community in this capacity through my latest Engage blog. A heartfelt thanks to Guillaume for his many contributions to our organization.

Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy Announcement

We welcome the recent launch of the new Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy (RDM Policy), jointly created by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).

The RDM Policy promotes sound digital data management and data stewardship practices, as well as supports Canadian research integrity. We commend all research community members, stakeholders and Indigenous partners who participated in the extensive engagement process for this important policy, including The Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL) and the Portage Network, among other collaborators.
