The Digital Research Alliance of Canada (the Alliance) has joined the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) as a Full Member, providing new opportunities for the Alliance to advance digital preservation in a collaborative, global context.

The DPC is an international charitable foundation which supports digital preservation, helping its 160+ members across 24 countries to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services. Full membership in the DPC offers several benefits to the Alliance, including eligibility for membership of the DPC representative Council and for nominations to the Executive Board, as well as direct support from DPC subject specialists and the development of a shared workplan. The Alliance can also advance the achievement of the coalition’s goals by participating in coalition activities, exchanging knowledge and developing good practices with the international digital preservation community.

Digital preservation, including that of research data, forms an important part of the Alliance’s work. Support for digital preservation at the Alliance includes long-term preservation of research data in the Federated Research Data Repository (FRDR), as well as initiatives undertaken by the Preservation Expert Group to advance capacity, increase awareness and foster a community of practice for research data preservation in Canada. The Alliance looks forward to working with the DPC and its members to help advance digital preservation for the benefit of researchers in Canada and around the world.
